Spotlight: 360° Virtual Gallery of MyTiger Values Art Exhibition

MyTiger Values Art Exhibition enters the digital realm with an interactive 360° virtual gallery showcasing the artwork of local artists. Here is how the virtual gallery was conceptualised. 

The MyTIGER Values Art Competition is an art an design competition launched by Maybank Foundation in 2018 to promote awareness for tiger conservation. 

For its 7th successful run, the popular programme welcomes submissions by primary, secondary and university students. Over 1,500 submissions were received, themed after the UN's 12 Sustainable Development Goals. After the competition, the winning artworks were featured in Balai Seni exhibition space in Maybank Tower. We were engaged by the team to digitise the space in a 360° virtual tour.

Digital Twin, Digital Transformation

Maybank Foundation envisioned a virtual walkthrough of the gallery spaces, where visitors can enjoy and interact with the artwork even when they are not at Balai Seni in person. The virtual tour also allows MyTiger Values Art Exhibition 2024 to remain accessible long after the programme is completed.

Our photographers meticulously captured the space in 11K 360° panoramas, ensuring that every corner is fully immersive. This approach ensures a seamless experience for viewers, as though they are physically there. 

After the images are put through high-grade post production to ensure colour accuracy and clarity, they are paired with a simple and user-friendly navigation menu. Some call it a digital twin because it is a digital representation of the physical space, made to offer an impactful online presence.

We designed the interface to be minimalist and clean, featuring a few settings in the top right corner. By clicking on these buttons, you can find some instructions on how to navigate the virtual tour and read about the exhibition. 

The virtual tour can be viewed on all devices including laptops, tablets, mobile devices and VR headsets. When the VR goggles button is clicked on the right devices, they would show the gallery in steroscopic view.

Empowering Local Artists in 360°

The primary feature of the virtual gallery is to highlight the existing artworks from the competition. We focused on 3 key elements that were essential to bring out the positive social impact the project set out to achieve.

#1 Sharp, high-resolution gallery displays that enhance visual appeal. When zoomed in, the details are not lost or pixelated.

#2 Thoughtful artwork curation that lets viewers click to automatically jump to the right panorama where the display is located. We used a yellow bottom bar to feature these artwork, which makes them easier to see in a row. 

#3 Clear and informative text that provides context on the artists' inspirations and intentions. 

We displayed the information within a partially opaque box, which only appears on the screen when the right angle is viewed. This gives the virtual tour a better viewing experience when displayed on a VR headset. 

These elements foster a deeper understanding of the artworks in an immersive digital environment, enabling anyone to appreciate the narratives behind the art. In many ways, the virtual tour an embodiment of the conservation and community empowerment that the exhibition aims to promote.
